‘Grouch … grouch … grouch … ROARRRR!’

The force of the roar hurled the orange balls across the room and ripped the net covering Max to shreds, just as Peregrine burst back onto the scene, bits of tree in his hair. He pressed the net button on his suit again, but unfortunately the wooden arm snapped and the net just went over his head.

The marmalade balls gathered into one big blob that expanded in size until it was larger even than Max.

‘Grikey!’ he said, as the marmalade turned into a spooky phantom with sticky claws and a huge round mouth.
